Evaluation

My Documentary is finally finished and I am very happy with the final outcome and it matches the initial idea that was in my head. The product:  The documentary is meant to show how Sunderland is evolving from having no purpose, to now becoming a film capital. I chose to make this due to the fact that my client was Sunderland Culture. Sunderland Culture gave me a young demographic target audience at 16 - 25. They wanted me to display talent within the north. After researching into Sunderland Culture, I found out that they use their funding to help people less fortunate or less abled, with creating art. With the aim of inspiring the youth to create content and feel confident about where they live, I decided to create my documentary.  After finding out my audience and thinking of my idea, I was able to look into existing work within the industry to assist me with my knowledge of how to tell a story appropriately. With this research from past and present I was able to know how to...

Feedback, edits and final product

From the audience Feedback I can see that, although there was a few anomalies, the demographic found the documentary engaging and made them feel prouder of where they live. I could go into detail about how this means that I have engaged the target audience and how it has made the brief.  However, due to past experiences I understand that it is not the positives I need to focus on, but rather all of the negatives. The negatives are not to be seen as hate for the film. But things that other people think of. Since I have made this Documentary by myself, there is no other minds or input on the film. The film may look great to me and others, but in order to engage everyone, I must focus of the negatives that were highlighted. From the feedback I can see that the demographic still want more evidence of my findings and conclusions. This may also be due to the fact that they want to be constantly consuming information, as seen in my Tik Tok research.  They also wish to see the ...

Overall edits that are made within the Documentary: Within my documentary, the story is mainly told through change. As Well as this, almost all of the emotions within the documentary are told and forced by the music choice. By using and manipulating the pace and flow of music. I am able to change how the audience feel about certain places and facts. Taking them from empathy at the start, to strength and unity at the end, music choice and storytelling was all crafted and refined within my editing.  All of my personal recorded footage also contains a warp stabilizer applied to it in order to maintain a smooth and steady recording. This make the footage look more professional and makes the visuals more stunning and pleasing to the eyes.  As mentioned within my Day 1, the color grading I used was made with basic, creative and curve tabs within premiere pro. Using these tools at my disposal I was able to create an orange and teal color palate which makes the places i recorded look ...

In order to match the script and use the techniques learned within my existing products I need to use footage from online. As learnt within my existing products and demonstrated within my script, change is one of the best ways to give an audience a sense of scale and make them feel empathy. As I cannot record the past (as much as that would be cool) I have had to use youtube videos in order to show what  the docks looked like and how residents of sunderland felt about the change. On Top of this, as my Tik Tok research shows, using screenshots of websites as evidence are a good way to keep their eyes engaged on the video as they are reading and listening at the same time.  Within my existing products I was able to see how using personal experiences can make an audience seem more empathetic towards characters. Therefore, by showing my own work, shown here , I will be able to show my talent and make the audience believe that the north does in fact have people that are interested ...

Product Research

Past research: As referenced within my client research, I have worked on previous projects before (Mind). Which has assisted me in having a base understanding of how the outdoors can help young people's mental health. As Well as working on this, I have also created a documentary before. In order to create the best documentary possible I conducted research into the different types of documentaries in order to understand how the storylines and editing works. Documentary Types -  https://cultureofthedigitalage.blogspot.com/2022/03/documentary-types.html Existing Products -  https://cultureofthedigitalage.blogspot.com/2022/05/existing-products.html This was used to create a documentary about Culture in the digital age and how social media is both positive and bad in certain ways. Although the reason I researched into these documentaries were different, I learnt how changing your style of documentary can change the audiences interpretation.   For example from my past rese...

Target audience

Image
The Target audience is 16-25 and my aim is for them to feel proud of where they live and to show southerners that the north east isn't a bad place and it has lots of natural beauty. As seen in my client research I have attempted to include some natural beauty as well as including some of the investments made into the area. This should therefore inform the youth of some of the stunning places that surround them, as well as show them the new upcoming jobs within the future. People aged 16-25 are either in College, University or employment. Being within this demographic myself I understand that with the stress of education and the exhaustion of work, it is hard to find extra motivation to do something like going for a walk for your own wellbeing. Therefore I will reinforce this by conducting a survey to say how other people feel about going outside in order to better themselves.  I have worked with this demographic before and from that research I was able to see how they already...

Subject research

The subject research is very important in this documentary and it will be the foundation of where the storyline is built off of. As said in my initial ideas and linked in my client research post, I will be doing my documentary on the beauty of the north east and then finishing off with the culture of Sunderland. I need to find out information about the places in order to make an appropriate script. For the documentary I will be recording in many different places such as Alnwick, Bamburgh, beaches and different cultures in Sunderland. Therefore I need to look into these places so I know where the best places to record will be. On Top of that I can also look into how people view the northeast and find things to reverse peoples thoughts on that topic. Another part I can research is different places of the northeast which are nice that I may not have not thought of previously. Alnwick Castle: In 1309, Henry Percy, great-great grandfather of Hotspur, purchased a typical Norman-style castle ...
